Abstract:

In recent years, the significant progress of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has accelerated flows of knowledge, capital, and resources across the globe, new breeds of cross-border business models (CBMs) display unconventional and ambidextrous forms of value logic that can cater to multi-cultural consumers in multilateral markets, such as shared economy, crowdsourcing, open-innovation paradigms and other kinds of internet-enabled platforms. Such increasing complexity and ambiguity have generated abundant new knowledge. Thus, it is imperative to adopt more contemporary, comprehensive, and interdisciplinary perspectives to link knowledge creation and business models beyond borders. This study aims to characterize an intricate, idiosyncratic knowledge-creating mechanism in the modern digital context of cross-cultural business models (CBM). we have shed new light on how the crossing of existing knowledge boundaries lead to novelties and how such novelties create unsettledness in CBMs by proposing a polychronic form of knowledge creation and an associate Sea-like heuristic metaphor.
