Abstract:

With the Covid-19 pandemic emerging suddenly this year, it is an appropriate opportunity to look at the challenges faced by leadership during these uncertain times. The crisis caused by this particular situation extends widely to many areas of society, as it not only impacts the lives of individuals but also undermines the political and economic systems of our society.  The initial simplicity of leadership strategy and tactics have metamorphosed and have now become more nuanced. In order to illustrate how to practice leadership during uncertain times effectively in the political, scientific, medical, and economic spheres, we need to start with a process of introspection of the ways of our thinking. Critical thinking is requisite to deal with uncertain situations in our lives. Thus, it is necessary to explore how to exercise critical thinking as much as possible, especially in uncertain times. Furthermore, with the changes engendered by uncertainty, we should recognize that the meaning of leadership and leadership types should be re-evaluated. Leaders need to be aware of variations in leadership styles and be ‘sensitive’ to the implications.
